On July 2, 2007 I got a job with a new company as an over the road truck driver.
I was excited to get on with this good company. My excitement turned to devastation when
I flunked the D.O.T. physical. This was the first I was aware that I was diabetic.
I went immediately to my family doctor who put me on oral medication and introduced me to
Debbie Latham. I attended her class on learning about diabetes and how to modify my diet.
The information was so simple to understand and implement but above all was so valuable.
Debbie worked with me through daily e-mails tracking my blood sugars and my meals.
Within 3 weeks time my improvement was so great, Debbie called and spoke with the company
physician about the improvement in my blood sugars and I was able to get a 90 day physical
and get to work. Within 90 days of that my blood sugars were so low I was able to get a 1
year physical, which is the maximum amount of time D.O.T. will certify a diabetic.
And as an added bonus during this 90 day period, I lost 29 pounds. Working with Debbie has
made it simple to know what to pick and what to pass at the buffet at the truck stops. I
find I have more energy and am able to walk for 2-3 miles at a time, which I definitely
couldn't have done before. I am now managing my diabetes without most of the diabetic
medication I was initially taking. Debbie has helped to change my life and made the
transition to living with diabetes an easy one. I recommend her to anyone with diabetes so please call Debbie Latham. She will change your life too.
When I first found out I had diabetes, I did not know anything about what I should and should not eat. I went to see Debbie Latham, and she helped me to learn what I needed to know. She was friendly and truly seemed to care about me. I was going through a really rough patch in my personal life, and she seemed to really understand and care about what was going on with me. With Debbie’s help, I was able to lose over 75 pounds in about a year, and got my diabetes well in control. She strongly encouraged me to do some type of exercise, so I started walking just 20 minutes a day. She didn’t push me to do a certain amount, she said just do SOMETHING every day. I whole-heartedly recommend Debbie to anyone who needs help with their diabetes.
I would recommend Debbie to anyone; she has been such a life saver for me. I don’t know where I would be today, health wise, if it weren’t for her.
She is the first person that has ever gotten my diabetes under control, I have seen
many physicians and they have tried numerous medicines (to get my blood sugar under control) and nothing, but she helped get it under control from an average of 250-350 to fewer than 100 or less……How awesome is that. She acts like she has known you for years and that you really matter as a person, not just some chart that needs tending to. She doesn’t act like you are an inconvenience. She is very knowledgeable about the new medicines that are out on the market and how they affect you. She explains how to change your lifestyle with diabetes for the long term, not just a quick fix.
I wanted to be able to get my sugar under control and to get off of so many prescriptions and that is exactly what she has done for me. I went from 4 prescriptions to only 1 in less than 2 years time. I was able to see everything I was doing wrong , the way that I ate and took care of myself, and change it .
Debbie is very easy to talk to and explains how you need to change your diet to help with your diabetes. I was diagnosed with type(2) diabetes at age 69 in 2005. I have lost 39# and am planning on losing 10 more. My cholesterol is also down to 121 almost half what it was in 2005. YOU ALSO CAN DO THIS IF YOU LISTEN TO HER AND YOU REALLY WANT TO LIVE BETTER AND FEEL BETTER.
My wife of 51 years has also helped me with the diet Debbie put me on. Debbie put me at ease with her caring spirit and easy methods. When I had to learn how to handle my diabetes, she made it so easy that my five grandchildren learned it also and really keeps me on my toes.
Tim Wright Sr.,
Hi Deb, just wanted to let you know that the class the other day was great and the advice seems to be working. My blood sugar is staying within limits. One question I do have is “my carb intake is running about 150+ cents per day, do you think I should increase it?
I would recommend Debbie to anyone! Until I started going to you, I couldn't get my diet to working right. When I followed your instructions my weight started going down.
I have worked closely with Debbie Latham for years and have appreciated her as an excellent diabetes educator and an encourager of my patients.
Ten years ago in Houston, I was told I was a “borderline diabetic” and told to just watch what I ate & whenever I felt tired I should eat a bagel. So until a few months ago I was unknowingly eating too much of all the wrong things. I now live in East Texas and after some recent blood work, my doctor ratted me out to Debbie Latham as a “pre-diabetic”. Debbie immediately spotted the error of my ways and hooked me up with a glucose monitor. Wouldn’t you know it I HAD DIABETES! I returned to my doctor with my blood sugar readings & sure enough I was a diabetic. He placed me on medication, and sent me back to Debbie Latham for additional diabetes education. It didn’t take her long to spot some weak areas, then she sent me on my way with instructions to keep her posted by email. So, for the next ten days or so we exchanged emails daily…me sending my daily blood sugar readings & what I was eating and her sending recommendations. Now, my daily averages of blood sugar are about 100 and I rarely go above 120 after meals.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Debbie was a blessing! I had wandered around in the wilderness for years, both high and low sugars. My doctor sent me to her. Boy it was like a miracle, she talked to the doctor and he gave permission to change my insulin. She taught me how to eat a much healthier meal and still have the things I liked. I don't count calories, I now count carbohydrate. I eat out a lot and I can look at the menu and know how much insulin I need for that meal.
